Terms of Service
Last updated: March 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using the Lekha API, website, SDK, or any related services ("Services"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you are using the Services on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have the authority to bind that organization to these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Services.
2. Service Description
Lekha is a financial document intelligence API that extracts structured JSON data from Indian financial documents, including bank statements, CAS reports, salary slips, ITR forms, CIBIL reports, and GST invoices. The API uses vision AI to read document images and PDFs and returns machine-readable structured data. Documents are processed in memory only and are never stored.
3. Account and API Keys
- You must create an account to access the API. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and API keys.
- API keys are issued per account and must not be shared publicly or embedded in client-side code.
- You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your API keys. Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized use.
- We reserve the right to revoke API keys that are compromised or used in violation of these Terms.
4. API Usage and Rate Limits
- Each plan includes a monthly credit allocation. One API extraction request consumes one or more credits depending on document complexity.
- Rate limits are enforced per API key. Exceeding your plan's rate limits will result in HTTP 429 responses.
- Fair use applies to all plans. Automated abuse, excessive requests designed to disrupt the service, or attempts to circumvent rate limits may result in temporary or permanent suspension.
- We reserve the right to modify rate limits and credit allocations with reasonable notice.
5. Prohibited Uses
You agree not to use the Services to:
- Process forged, fraudulent, or illegally obtained documents.
- Facilitate money laundering, fraud, identity theft, or any illegal activity.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code, algorithms, or prompts used by the API.
- Resell, sublicense, or redistribute the API or its outputs as a competing document extraction service without prior written consent.
- Submit malicious payloads, attempt to exploit vulnerabilities, or interfere with the operation of the Services.
- Process documents without the consent of the document owner or in violation of applicable data protection laws.
- Use the Services in any manner that violates applicable local, state, national, or international law.
6. Intellectual Property
- The Lekha API, website, SDK, documentation, and all related technology are the intellectual property of Lekha and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.
- You retain ownership of all documents you submit and the structured data extracted from them. We claim no ownership over your input or output data.
- We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, revocable license to use the Services in accordance with these Terms and your subscription plan.
7. Payment and Billing
- Free tier accounts receive a limited monthly credit allocation at no charge.
- Paid plans are billed monthly or annually as selected at checkout. All fees are in Indian Rupees (INR) unless otherwise stated.
- Payments are processed by Stripe. By subscribing to a paid plan, you agree to Stripe's terms of service.
- Failed payments may result in service downgrade or suspension. We will notify you before taking any action.
- Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis. Contact us at legal@lekhadev.com for refund requests.
8. Service Availability
- We strive to maintain high availability but provide the Services on a "best effort" basis. No uptime guarantee or SLA is provided for the free tier.
- Paid plans may include uptime commitments as specified in the plan details. Enterprise plans may negotiate custom SLAs.
- We may perform scheduled maintenance with reasonable advance notice. Emergency maintenance may occur without notice.
- Extraction accuracy depends on document quality, format, and bank-specific layouts. We provide confidence scores but do not guarantee 100% accuracy.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:
- The Services are provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
- Lekha shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, data, or business opportunities.
- Our total liability for any claims arising from or related to the Services shall not exceed the amount you paid to us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.
- We are not liable for decisions made based on data extracted by the API. You are responsible for verifying extracted data before taking action on it.
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Lekha, its officers, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Services, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any applicable law or the rights of any third party.
11. Termination
- You may terminate your account at any time by contacting us or through the dashboard settings.
- We may suspend or terminate your access to the Services immediately if you violate these Terms, engage in prohibited uses, or if required by law.
- Upon termination, your API keys will be revoked and your access to the Services will cease. Data retention after termination is governed by our Privacy Policy.
- Sections on Intellectual Property, Limitation of Liability, Indemnification, and Governing Law survive termination.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated Terms on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Services after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you disagree with any changes, you must stop using the Services and terminate your account.
13. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India. Any disputes arising from or related to these Terms or the Services shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in Hyderabad, Telangana, India.
